How to hire your next job
Stop thinking about getting hired. Flip the equation, figure out what you are hiring.
How to hire your next role
For most of us, a job search is geared towards a single goal: getting hired. But to truly take ownership of your career, you need to flip the equation. You are hiring your next role to make progress. Every interview, application, and outreach to someone in your network should be centered on figuring out if an opportunity is right for you, and we’ve done the research to help you do exactly that.
Understand your quest
Every person’s career goals are unique. For some, it’s to take a step up and be challenged, for others, it’s to regain alignment with their capabilities and passions. Once you understand your quest, you know which roads to go down, and which to avoid.
Unpack your energy drivers and career themes
To narrow down your search, spend time evaluating what gives you energy each day, what gives you a sense of purpose, and how these have manifested as ‘themes’ throughout your career. This lets you focus on opportunities that will consistently put you in positions where you thrive.
Prototype early and often
Don’t assume your next role has to ‘make sense’ on your resume. Look at a vast range of opportunities, even those that are not in your industry or which you may feel unqualified for. Far too often we think linearly about a next step, but it’s contrast that creates meaning. By taking a divergent prototyping approach, we are able to evaluate tradeoffs and identify what our real goals are.
